Weighve privacy policy

Updated 1 October 2026.

The short version

Your weight and health data are stored on this phone. The app has no account, no analytics and no ads, and your weight and health data are never sent anywhere.

The one exception is food: searching for a food or scanning a barcode sends that search text or barcode to food databases (Open Food Facts, and FatSecret through Weighve’s food service). It never sends your weight or any health data.

What the app reads from Health Connect

Weight and steps, and only after you allow it. Weight is used to draw your trend, direction and progress. Steps are shown beside your trend as a separate fact.

You can allow weight and not steps. You can remove access at any time in Health Connect; what was already read stays on this phone until you delete the app.

What you enter

Weigh-ins you type, tags, diet and circumstance periods, your goal, food and water entries, and saved meals. All of it is stored in the app’s own database on this phone.

Food lookup

When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the search text or barcode is sent to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), a public food database, and to FatSecret (fatsecret.com). Requests to FatSecret go through Weighve’s food service, a small server that holds the app’s FatSecret access keys. Open Food Facts and FatSecret receive each request the way any website receives a visit.

Weighve’s food service passes requests on and returns the answers. It does not keep a log of what you searched for, and receives nothing but the search text, barcode or recipe filters, a random ID for this installation (used only to limit how many requests one installation can make), and nothing about you. The only answers it keeps are recipe pages and recipe lists browsed without typing anything, which are the same for everyone; they are kept for up to 12 hours so the next person to open them does not need to ask FatSecret again. Anything you type or scan is never kept.

Which database is asked first depends on your phone’s region setting (for example UK or US). The app does not use your location.

Product details are kept on this phone so a repeat entry does not need to ask again.

Corrections you choose to send

If you choose to send a correction or a new product, the product details you submit (such as barcode, name, brand, serving and nutrition figures) are published publicly on Open Food Facts. Nothing is sent unless you tap send. Your weight, diary and health data are never included.

Contributions go through Weighve’s food service and are sent under Weighve’s shared Open Food Facts account, together with a random ID for this installation, which lets Open Food Facts moderate contributions from one installation without blocking everyone. The ID is not linked to your name, your data or your device’s identifiers, and it is not included in backups.

Public contributions stay on Open Food Facts if you delete the app.

Export, backup and the widget

Back up and Spreadsheet export each create a file on this phone and hand it to whatever app you choose to share it with. What happens to it after that is up to you and that app. A backup holds your readings, entries and settings.

If Android’s own device backup is switched on, Android may include this app’s data in your backup. That backup belongs to your Google account; the developer cannot see it.

If you add the home-screen widget, it shows your direction and latest weight on your home screen.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on this phone. Data in Health Connect belongs to Health Connect and the apps that wrote it; the app never writes to or deletes from Health Connect.

Not medical advice

This app tracks and describes your weight. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat or give medical advice. Talk to a doctor or other qualified professional before making decisions about your health.
